Live every day like you’re on holiday

14th April 2008 Print
Live every day like you’re on holiday With summer on its way and thoughts turning to lazy days by the sea, homebuyers may daydream of purchasing a home where they can live every day like a holiday.

But this ideal needn't remain in their imagination - with a handful of apartments still available at Redrow's award winning Knightstone Island venture, in Weston-super-Mare, on the North Somerset coast, home hunters can purchase a unique property on an ‘island' almost entirely surrounded by water.

Weston-super-Mare is enjoying a resurgence of redevelopment activity at present, making it the ideal spot to purchase a permanent home or a holiday pad, perfect for whiling away hot summer weekends and holidays.

Redrow has sensitively restored three Grade II Listed Buildings - the Pavilion Theatre, Dr Fox's Bath House and the historic baths - to create a range of one, two and three-bedroom apartments, encircled by lapping waves. Their work was recently highly commended at the Daily Telegraph Your New Homes awards in the category for best waterfront development.

Sandra Hughes, sales manager for Redrow Homes (South West), said: "Knightstone Island is a one-of-a-kind development. The homes are ideal for people looking for a new home within easy commuting distance of Bristol and Bath, but many buyers have also bought an apartment to use as an occasional weekend or holiday home, which they can use to escape hectic city life.

"Many people have fond childhood memories of summers by the sea in Weston and Knightstone Island perfectly encapsulates the traditional charm and character of the area. Our show apartment can also help people to picture themselves living on the island.

"There are a number of projects underway to rejuvenate the whole town and several developers are spending money here to ensure Weston fulfils its potential as a first class location for people to live, work and relax."

The island, which is linked to the mainland by a causeway, has long been a landmark in the resort but had fallen into a state of disrepair in recent years before Redrow's development gave it a new lease of life.

The listed buildings have now been transformed and two new contemporary buildings erected alongside, to create a total of 87 apartments and two commercial units set for restaurant / café use.

Sandra added "This is a location like no other. As well as the unique island setting, residents will be surrounded by an array of original features such as ornate stone carvings, beautiful hand carved plasterwork and timber architraves.

"The homes appeal to a very mixed clientele of affluent young professionals, downsizers, second home owners and investors and we don't expect the remaining properties to be available for long."

Buyers will have to act fast if they want to snap up one of the last stylish sea-front apartments, which are priced from £150,000 for a one-bedroom apartment, from £199,000 for a two-bedroom and from £342,000 for a three-bedroom.
