Knightstone Island scoops national property award

Knightstone Island scoops national property award Knightstone Island is continuing its winning ways after scooping another prestigious national property award for its sensitive restoration of three Grade II listed buildings.

Redrow's unique new homes development in Weston-super-Mare, which is almost entirely surrounded by water, has been given a high recommendation in the category of ‘Best Redevelopment' at the Daily Mail UK Property awards.

The housebuilder must now wait until the gala ceremony in October to find out whether it has been given the prestige of four or five stars.

Redrow has refurbished three Grade II Listed Buildings on the island- the Pavilion Theatre, Dr Fox's Bath House and the historic baths - to create a range of 87 one, two and three-bedroom apartments and two commercial units set for restaurant / café use.

The island, which is linked to the mainland by a causeway, has long been a landmark in the resort but had fallen into a state of disrepair in recent years before Redrow's development gave it a new lease of life.

Peter Carpinelli, managing director for Redrow Homes (South West), said: "It's fantastic to win this award and once again receive recognition of the highest order for Knightstone Island from property industry experts.

"The development's stunning location means most of the apartments have spectacular views of the seafront and beaches and we've worked hard to maintain and balance between modern living while retaining many of the historical features of the Grade II listed Victorian buildings, and to breathe new life into this popular and highly visible landmark. We've now sold over 95% of the homes, which is further testament to its popularity."

Earlier this year the development was highly commended at the Daily Telegraph Your New Homes awards in the category for best waterfront development.

Entries to the Daily Mail awards were judged by a panel of independent professionals, chaired by Eric Pickles, British Shadow Secretary of State.

The organisers receive hundreds of entries and up to two of the most outstanding entries in each category are given a four-star award, while the best overall entry will be given a five-star. These awards are linked to the world's largest and most prestigious property competition and a number of this year's UK winners will be chosen to represent the UK at the finals in the USA this November.

Buyers will have to act fast if they want to snap up one of the last stylish sea-front apartments, which are priced at £220,000 for a two-bedroom apartment. Two A3 commercial units are also now available.
