Barratt hosts ‘Festival of Housing’ for first time buyers in Taunton Barratt is set to host a Festival of Housing weekend at its Old Cider Works development in Taunton this month - offering first time buyers the perfect opportunity to get onto the housing ladder.

On Saturday October 18 and Sunday October 19 Barratt is set to throw open the doors at the Old Cider Works offering first time buyers a host of tailor-made deals together with help and advice about how easy it is to move into their first home.

"The Festival of Housing is the perfect backdrop for those looking to buy a new home and learn about what Barratt is doing to help in terms of affordability,'' said sales manager Louise Terry.

The most popular Barratt scheme for first time buyers at the moment is Dream Start which Louise said increases affordability for buyers in the region.

"Under Dream Start, buyers secure a mortgage for 75 per cent of the total property price and Barratt finances the remaining 25 per cent for up to 10 years. So for a two bedroom Milton apartment priced at £135,000, ‘Dream Start' allows a first time buyer to purchase at £101,250.

"Market evidence continues to highlight the affordability difficulties faced by first time buyers and key workers and Barratt's Dream Start scheme is tailored exclusively to help these people get on the property ladder," added Louise.

"By loaning the extra 25 per cent of the asking price, Barratt is enabling its buyers to take on a more manageable mortgage. This flexible loan can be settled in full or in part at any time during the ten year period and is paid back, interest free, as 25 per cent of the property's market value at the time.''
