Allure of waterside living keeps market buoyant in Port Marine

Even in the current climate, for many buyers it is still an ambition to own a property where they can enjoy the sound of waves and the calming atmosphere that waterside living has to offer.
Research by Crest Nicholson has shown that 84 per cent of those living in the UK’s urban areas aspire to own a waterside property at some point in the future, with the main attraction being the relaxing lifestyle this type of location offers.
However, just over 40 per cent of those surveyed said that the price tag associated with living in a waterside location is the reason that they do not currently live in this type of location; a misconception which is stopping many people reach their perfect property.
Nowadays new waterfront property is much more affordable, says Crest Nicholson. Unlike older homes, new properties tend to be more readily available than traditional second hand waterside properties, and have all the benefits of being brand new.
At Crest Nicholson’s Dockside development home owners were asked why they moved to the development with the majority looking for a more relaxing environment to live in and consequently seeking out waterside property. The waterside location was key to all home owners who were surveyed and was a major factor in their decision to buy at the development, with many keen to be part of the extensive regeneration by the water.
Homeowners in Devizes, which is situated next to the Kennet and Avon Canal, were looking for a more relaxed environment and lifestyle change. Some have taken advantage of the location by capitalising on the many outdoor pursuits available nearby including fishing and barge holidays in an excellent setting with stunning views.
Laura Osborne, sales manager for Crest Nicholson South West, comments:
“Even in the current climate, there is a quality about waterside properties that will always attract buyers. Our homes at Dockside in Port Marine offer great harbourside living and this is often the deciding factor in making the purchase. We have had great interest in all the properties at Dockside and are looking forward to the launch of the new phase of the development in the near future.
“The survey also suggests that some buyers would not have bought their home if there had not been water nearby, maintaining confidence that purchasing waterside property is a good investment whatever the economic climate.”
