Thatcham have rounded off the year in style scooping HRH Prince Michael of Kent’s most prestigious ‘Premier’ road safety award, at a gala presentation in London this week.

Confirmed recently as a Prince Michael International Road Safety Award winner, representatives from Thatcham were surprised and delighted to be further honoured as the Prince’s ‘Premier’ award winners for 2008.

Each year, the most outstanding examples of international road safety initiatives are given public recognition through the Prince Michael International Road Safety Award. Of those award winners, just one is singled out as the most outstanding, to receive the ‘Premier’ award.

His Royal Highness recognised the research centre’s unique achievements towards promoting safer roads, in particular, the innovative research on whiplash and ESC (Electronic Stability Control) and the commitment to the promotion of technologies aimed at reducing the number of accidents on the road.

Accepting the award on behalf of Thatcham, a thrilled Director of Research, Andrew Miller confirmed, “This is a huge accolade for Thatcham's dedication to the cause of Road Safety. This award recognises the enormous strides Thatcham has made in becoming a major UK and international safety advocate and is a tribute to the hard work of the Thatcham safety team. Thatcham is proud to be recognised as a Premier Award winner and will continue to work hard in the future in the safety arena on behalf of our Insurer sponsors.”

Thatcham now join a selected shortlist of ‘premier’ award winners whose efforts in improving road safety have been recognised since the awards inception in 1987.
