LPG affordability increases with lower prices
Liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) is now an even better option to petrol than diesel, claims Calor's Autogas Development Executive, Chris Taylor. While the price of LPG and petrol has fallen considerably recently, diesel price decreases haven't been as sharp.
Chris explains: "LPG has overtaken diesel as the cost-effective alternative to petrol, currently costing 501 per cent less than diesel. For families and companies running fleets it makes long-term financial sense to change vehicles to run on LPG.
"Converting a vehicle to run on LPG can be done quickly and easily by an approved converter and costs around £1,800. Based on current fuel prices and an annual mileage of 25,000 miles it would take around 24 months to recoup this initial cost."
With no prospect of petrol and diesel prices to fall much lower, the time for motorists to join the growing number of LPG vehicle users in the UK has never been better. Chris continues: "Our technical team are always available to support motorists and fleet managers in the move towards Autogas as a fuel alternative."
"Using LPG not only saves money at the pumps, but all motorists benefit from up to 100 per cent exemption from the London Congestion Charge and increased residual vehicle values by making the switch.
"People have recognised diesel as an alternative to soaring fuels costs with sales increasing by 50 per cent throughout the UK in the last five years. But now drivers are making the change to LPG in bigger numbers, as they recognised the cost-saving benefits compared to diesel."
LPG motorists can rest assured they are doing their bit for the environment too as vehicles running on LPG produce far fewer harmful emissions that contribute to environmental and health problems than traditional road fuels. LPG vehicles produce 17 per cent less carbon dioxide than petrol and 2 per cent less than diesel, 120% less NOx than petrol and a staggering 2,000 per cent less than diesel and up to 120 times less small particle (PM10) emissions than diesel vehicles.
The UK, led by Calor and it's joint venture company Autogas Limited with over 400 sites, has a well developed LPG Autogas refuelling infrastructure with around 1,400 public access sites. The majority of these sites are positioned on petrol forecourts offering convenience and reliability. To make it even easier to find your nearest LPG refuelling site, both Calor and Autogas, a joint venture between Calor and Shell, offers a free to download point of interest file for leading satellite navigation systems. Users can log onto autogasfinder.co.uk or lpg-vehicles.co.uk/satnav to upload the Autogas locator file so that no matter where you they are in the UK they can find their nearest Calor Autogas site.
