George Wimpey goes on the run

George Wimpey goes on the run Fleet of foot fun runners from George Wimpey South Midlands have raced to raise £3,700 for a local children’s hospice by taking part in the Milton Keynes Big Fun Run. The “Magnificent Seven” from the leading housebuilder more than doubled their initial target of £1,500, collecting £3,700 for Keech Cottage Children’s Hospice in Luton.

The team took part in the Milton Keynes Big Fun Run around Campbell Park on Sunday 16th September.

Marketing Manager Katie Hanson explains: “We’ve been training as a team since February as we had intended to run a 10km course – but both the longer races we entered were cancelled.

“I would say that someone was trying to make it easy on us!, the 5km Fun Run proved to be just far enough and we all left feeling a huge sense of achievement having smashed our charity target – and we’ve all become much fitter through our training.

“It’s been a great team morale and friendship-making experience for everyone because we got to spend more time together doing something fun, not just working!

“We’re also terrifically grateful to everyone who sponsored us. We know that the money raised through this and other George Wimpey South Midlands events during 2007 are going to a truly wonderful cause.”

Keech Cottage Children’s Hospice in Luton provides care for children who have a life-limiting illness and are not expected to survive to their adult years.

So far this year George Wimpey South Midlands staff have raised well over £30,000 for the charity, the company aims to donate a total of £40,000 to Keech Cottage during 2007, so are very close to reaching their goal.
