Britain’s biggest builder returns to Bedford Leading housebuilder George Wimpey is back in Bedford with a stunning selection of properties at its new Westlow Abbey development in Wixams. Bill Petzing from Wilstead named the development through a local competition and was given the honour of carrying out the official opening of Westlow Abbey – part of a sustainable village and comprising two, three, four and five-bedroom properties - on Saturday 17th January.

Prices at the development start at just £175,000, and with George Wimpey’s Cheque This Out! Campaign, through which purchasers can save up to £17,500, the first customers at Westlow Abbey are finding that there has never been a better time to invest in a brand new home.

Jason Colmer, Regional Sales and Marketing Director for George Wimpey comments: “It’s great to be back in Bedford and with our fantastic range of new homes, we are certainly hoping to bring something special to the new Wixams community.

“George Wimpey is fully committed to providing the best possible service to our customers and we urge people to visit Westlow Abbey today to see which of our special money-saving incentives will suit them best.”

The three-bedroom, semi-detached ‘Gosford’ is just one of the homes available – ideal for first-time buyers, couples and families of all ages.

Boasting timeless architectural design, it features a light and airy living/dining room and French doors to the private garden, a well-proportioned kitchen and a cloakroom off the entrance hallway.

Upstairs, the landing leads to a master bedroom with en-suite shower room, two further bedrooms – one which can be used as a home office - and a main bathroom.

Like all new homes at the development, the ‘Gosford’ enjoys a high standard specification including central heating, double glazing and a fitted kitchen with built-in oven, hob and hood.

The ‘Gosford’ is priced £199,995, the detached four-bedroom ‘Framlingham’ is available from £349,995 and the five-bedroom ‘Lavender’ from £339,995. The two-bedroom ‘Cook’ apartments are ideal for first-time buyers and start at £175,000.

Westlow Abbey is part of Lakeview, the first of four villages which will make up the self-contained, sustainable town of Wixams, three miles south-west of Bedford.

Designs for the new community draw on the best traditions of Bedfordshire’s market towns and homes will benefit from new shops, community and leisure facilities, schools and employment areas, in addition to 300 acres of sports pitches, parklands and green open space.

Each of the four villages will have its own centre, play and landscaped areas, and each will be within easy reach of Wixams town centre.

A new transport network puts bus stops within comfortable walking distance of the homes, a new railway station will open, offering quick links to London and nearby towns and cities, and an extensive network of cycleways and paths make getting around a breeze.

Beyond the town boundaries, the re-aligned A6 and the A421 Bedford southern bypass provide quick links from Wixams to the region’s major commuter routes, including the M1 and A1, while those travelling further afield will appreciate that Luton Airport is just a 30-minute drive away.

For days out, Wixams lies amidst beautiful countryside and within easy reach of a wide range of established visitor attractions, including Woburn Safari Park and Wild Britain, Gulliver’s Land theme park and the Millennium Country Park in the Forest of Marston Vale.
