A home for entertaining

17th March 2009 Print
A home for entertaining The Victorian idea of the house as a box, with rigidly-defined rooms for sleeping, eating and relaxing, is not compatible with how we live now. The modern home needs to incorporate space for entertaining and a variety of contemporary lifestyle needs along with more traditional family living. Therefore today’s developers are having to think more creatively about how a home is used and the future needs of its occupiers.

With this in mind local developer Bloor Homes South Midlands has created a series of homes at Lake View in Elstow, Bedfordshire, designed to maximise space and allow homeowners a personal environment which is ideal for entertaining as well as well living in.

The properties at Lake View provide a variety of living configurations to suit every purchaser. The 4 bedroom ‘Fencott’ features a large lounge, open plan kitchen / dining room, study and a unique garden room all on the ground floor. ‘The Worsley’, a 5 bedroom home, features its living space over three stories. The property boasts large separate kitchen, lounge and dining rooms on the ground floor alongside a study, with a master bedroom and ensuite on the first floor along with three further bedrooms. The second floor then features a play room, storage area, shower room and fifth bedroom.

Lake View comprises 83 units, varying from 2-5 bedroom homes, each with parking and private gardens. Spanning the north-east perimeter of the site lies Elstow village lake, which many of the development’s homes look onto.

Lake View will be the first of four new community villages proposed for Wixams, a unique and sustainable new township built within Elstow. Wixams will have its own employment area, schools, health service, leisure and recreations areas, transport links and community centre.

Elstow itself has a history dating back to 1078 when a nunnery was founded in the village by Countess Judith, niece of William the Conqueror. Today the old village maintains its historic character as a conservation area, with an attractive village green and well-preserved medieval buildings, including the 15th Century Elstow Moot Hall.

Despite its attractive historic backdrop, the Wixams community will be ideal for modern living. The location of the village, surrounded by countryside and just over 10 miles from both the M1 and A1, makes it perfect for families and commuters alike. Additionally nearby Bedford station provides a direct service to London St Pancras in 40 minutes.

Prices at Lakeview start from £194,950. For further information visit Bloorhomes.com. The site’s sales centre is open from 10am – 5pm Monday to Thursday.
