Back ends of buses become speed traps

Drivers will soon have little excuse for speeding as the back ends of buses are to be fitted with signs that flash if the car behind is driving too fast or tailgating, according to green breakdown provider, the Environmental Transport Association (ETA).

The Stagecoach buses will use the 'Tailguardian' system to establish whether the vehicle behind is breaking the 'two-second distance rule' and if they are too close, an illuminated sign reminds them of the speed limit on that particular road.

Director at the ETA, Andrew Davis said: "Overtaking large vehicles can be treacherous, so the back end of a bus is an ideal place to remind drivers if they are speeding or tailgating."
