Real time PDA technology hits the workshop

16th January 2009 Print
Real time PDA technology hits the workshop RTC (Real Time Communications), the UK’s leading specialist aftersales software developer and part of Manheim Retail Services, has introduced a new hand-held PDA-based aftersales inspection system to maximise efficiencies in busy workshops. Wireless transmission of the recorded data to RTC’s vehicle health check module eliminates the need for service advisors to re-enter the same data that has already been recorded by the technician. Reaction to this new PDA-based aftersales inspection system has been very positive, with more than 500 units already ordered just days after its launch.

The operation of the PDA is both simple and fast. The workshop technician completes the vehicle health check and this information is downloaded via wireless transmission to the health check module, from where the workshop controller or service advisor can simply cost and authorise. Once completed, a print out identifies the items checked and provides cost estimates for any work required. In addition, all deferred work is automatically entered onto the RTC vehicle health check module for follow-up at the appropriate time.

Tim Baumfield, Managing Director of RTC said: “Adapting existing PDA technology to the aftersales environment, replacing paper-based systems and minimising the risk of human error have all been the key objectives in the development of this new product. The end result is significant process improvements and productivity efficiencies at a time when dealers are looking to sweat their assets and generate revenue wherever they can.”
