With used car prices down more than 20% in the last 12 months, bargain hunters at Manheim Auctions, the world’s largest car and van auction company, are picking up some really great value vehicles at knock down prices. Recent credit-crunch busters include a BMW 328i (1997, R plate) which sold for £575, a Citroen Saxo (2001, 51 plate) for £975, Ford Mondeo (2002, 02 plate) for £900, Mazda 323 (2000, V plate) for £585, Renault Megane (2001, 51 plate) for £900 and a Vauxhall Astra (2000, Y plate) for £930. With such great value for less than £1,000, there has never been a better time to buy a used car.

A recent Manheim survey of the general public at auctions, highlighted a significant shift in the perception of the vehicle auction environment over recent years. Whereas 10 years ago auctions were considered an intimidating environment for the general public, these days experiences at Manheim Auctions’ centres throughout the UK have transformed opinions. The survey showed that value for money, convenience and a hassle-free environment are now key factors that convince people looking for a used car bargain to go to an auction.
