MOT testing stations to invest in 2009 says RMIF

26th January 2009 Print
MOT test stations can plan for the future now the threat of MOT 4-2-2 has been removed, according to the Retail Motor Industry Federation (RMIF).

Many test stations shelved their facility upgrade plans because of the threat posed by the negative impact of the proposed MOT 4-2-2 frequency reduction. These plans can now go ahead following the Government’s decision in December to maintain the current 3-1-1 MOT test frequency.

Stephen Coles, Head of MOT Operations for the RMIF said: ‘Many test stations that had put facility upgrade plans on ice because of the uncertainty caused by the potential move to a 4-2-2 timescale can now go ahead.’

‘Investment will help businesses maximise the quality and efficiency of the tests provided and further ensure that motorists receive a value for money test, and that the major contribution to road safety the MOT test provides, as highlighted by the Department for Transport (DfT) risk assessment, is maintained.’

The RMIF led the campaign to persuade Government that the change would not only affect businesses, but threaten the UK’s road safety record too.

Coles commented: ‘The MOT Scheme Evidence-base risk assessment conducted by the DfT agreed with our suggestions that should a change to a 4-2-2 testing regime take place, road safety would be severely affected.’

RMIF-member MOT businesses that want advice on reviving their investment plans should contact the RMIF’s MOT Operations Team.
