World market leader for electric vehicle heaters is renamed

2nd February 2009 Print
catem will become Eberspächer catem: the world market leader for electric vehicle heaters is being renamed Eberspächer catem GmbH & Co. KG as of February 1, 2009. And catem DEVELEC which is specialized in vehicle electronics will be renamed Eberspächer Controls GmbH & Co. KG on the same date. Both new company names underline the affiliation in the Eberspächer group of companies, which took over 100 percent of the successful catem Holding company, Herxheim, last year.

With a headcount of 320 employees, Eberspächer catem develops and produces auxiliary heaters for low consumption passenger cars whose engines do not produce enough waste heat to heat the passenger compartment with it adequately. More than 20 million PTC air and water heaters for almost all brands of vehicles have already been delivered since the founding of the company in 1998. Furthermore, the product portfolio already includes auxiliary electric heaters ready for production for future generations of electric, hybrid and fuel cell vehicles. About 50 employees work at Eberspächer Controls, which was founded in 2001 as catem DEVELEC. The company has its own development and manufacturing facilities at the Herxheim site, and is a specialist for the switching and distribution of large currents as well as for complex electronic controllers. The scope of products and services ranges from the regulation of drive and exhaust technology through to energy management.

The Eberspächer Group ranks amongst the leading system developers and suppliers of exhaust technology and vehicle heaters worldwide, and is involved with the future markets of automotive electronics and automotive bus systems. With 5,500 employees in 19 countries, Eberspächer generated a turnover of more than 2.2 billion Euro in 2007.
