Motorpoint customers are going to quite extraordinary lengths to take advantage of the huge savings on offer at the Scottish car supermarket giant.

Take Thomas Ward, from Lerwick on the Shetland Islands, who braved raging gales in the middle of the North Sea in order to pocket savings of over £10,000 on his nearly new car.

Tom, who works as a contractor at the BP Terminal at Sullom, was originally scheduled to collect his Vauxhall Vectra 1.9 CDTi from Motorpoint Glasgow on Friday morning before catching the return NorthLink ferry that night.

However, the severe weather meant that Tom didn’t arrive in Glasgow by train until late Friday afternoon. After staying overnight in Glasgow and collecting his car on Saturday morning, Tom made the 145-mile trip to Aberdeen. Unfortunately, when he got to the terminal he found that the damage to the foc’sle was so extensive that it had been sent for repair in Denmark, and a replacement wouldn’t be available until the following day.

So, after another overnight stay, this time in Aberdeen, Tom finally boarded the ferry to the Shetland Islands, arriving at 7.30am. However, rather than take the day off, Tom simply had a quick shower and went straight to work.

This isn’t the first time that a member of his family has bought from Motorpoint. Tom’s father travelled even further - to Motorpoint’s site in Derby -to buy a Ford Fiesta after being unable to find a similar model for the same price anywhere in the Shetland Islands – an experience which inspired Tom to follow in his footsteps.

Explains Tom: “It was my father who originally suggested trying Motorpoint as he had been really happy with his purchase. Generally, most people in the Shetlands don’t want the hassle of travelling to the mainland, and end up buying from their local dealer.

“However, with the savings that we were being offered, we decided to make the journey. Even though the weather turned against us, and what should have taken a day ended up being a whole weekend, it was well worth it, and we couldn’t be more delighted with the car we’ve bought from Motorpoint. I’ll be making sure that I recommend them to other family and friends.”

Adds Graham Provest, General Manager of Motorpoint Glasgow: “Tom’s story is just one of many examples of Scots who are going to quite extraordinary lengths to take advantage of the savings on offer at Motorpoint.”
