Barratt to scrap stamp duty, despite what Chancellor decides

8th August 2008 Print
Homebuyers across the region are waiting to see whether reports that the Chancellor Alistair Darling is planning to reduce Stamp Duty are true. But Barratt has confirmed that it isn't going to wait for his decision - it is offering to scrap the tax with immediate effect.

So anyone buying a house from Barratt in South Wales won't have to pay any Stamp Duty at all - because Barratt will pay it on their behalf.

In addition to picking-up the tab for Stamp Duty, Barratt could also pay your legal fees and moving costs.

Sandra Dixon, Sales Director for Barratt, said: "The newspapers have been full of stories saying that the Chancellor may either allow homebuyers to put off paying Stamp Duty or even let them off paying it altogether. But no official announcement has yet been made and it is possible that nothing will change.

"We don't want our homebuyers to worry about whether they should buy now or wait to see if the Chancellor makes a change to the rules.

"That is why we are offering to pay their Stamp Duty for them. So if you buy a home from Barratt it doesn't matter what Darling eventually decides - you won't have to worry about finding money to pay for Stamp Duty yourself."

Homes currently available for Stamp Duty, legal fees and moving costs paid include Cardiff developments Llandaff Grove,Ty Glas Square, ipads@Cardiff Central and Vale Meadows.
