Cardiff man named top site manager

Cardiff man named top site manager A Redrow site manager has joined the elite of the construction industry after being awarded a national accolade reserved for the best in the business. Syd James, 36, has been awarded a coveted ‘Seal of Excellence' award as part of the National House-Building Council's (NHBC) annual Pride in the Job initiative; an honour bestowed on only the top 100 site managers out of 18,000 across the UK.

It's a major achievement for Syd, from Whitchurch, in Cardiff, who has spent the last 16 months in charge of his first site, Llys Ffynnon in Pontllanfraith, after graduating from a Redrow training course to develop his site management skills.

Syd's achievement follows on from the NHBC ‘Quality' award he received earlier in the year and reflects the calibre of his site management, including technical knowledge, consistency in the build process and leadership and organisational skills.

He was only promoted to site manager in July last year after completing Redrow's unique Assistant Site Manager Development Programme, which includes an NVQ Level 3 in Site Supervision, accredited by the NHBC.

Syd, who's been with Redrow for three years, said: "Having joined the company as an assistant site manager, Redrow's training programme was instrumental in equipping me with the knowledge and skills to run a site to a standard high enough to achieve an NHBC ‘Seal of Excellence' award at the first attempt. I was over the moon when I heard the news.

"I've got a good site team around me and have enjoyed the cooperation of all the contractors as well as my colleagues at Redrow, which has helped enormously, but the development programme and NVQ helped me to appreciate the importance of setting out my stall at the beginning, motivating my team and ensuring everyone knew what was expected of them from the outset."

Syd and his team are responsible for the construction of a range of three and four-bedroom family homes at Llys Ffynnon, with only five homes remaining for sale and current prices from £154,995 to £224,995. For more details log on to redrow.co.uk.
