Third award for top Cardiff construction worker

4th August 2009 Print
Third award for top Cardiff construction worker It’s three top national awards in just two years for one Cardiff construction worker. Wasting no time, the 37-year-old site manager with Redrow Homes has received a second ‘Quality’ award in the National House-Building Council’s (NHBC) annual Pride in the Job initiative - just two years after graduating from a training course to develop his site management skills.

It’s an impressive achievement for Syd, from Whitchurch, in Cardiff, who last year went on to win the even higher ‘Seal of Excellence’ award - a standard reserved by the NHBC for the top 100 site managers in the country.

One of only 400 site managers from 18,000 across the UK to win an NHBC ‘Quality’ award in 2009, Syd’s achievement reflects the calibre of his site management, including technical knowledge, consistency in the build process and leadership and organisational skills.

Syd, who has been with Redrow just under four years and is currently based at Sirhowy Gardens in Oakdale said: “I am delighted to have won this award again as I think it highlights the consistency of the whole team.

“My site team is very strong and I have enjoyed the cooperation of all the contractors as well as my colleagues at Redrow, which has helped enormously. Redrow’s development programme and NVQ also helped me to appreciate the importance of motivating my team and ensuring everyone knew what was expected of them from the outset.”

Syd, who is married to Sam and has two young daughters, will attend a special presentation ceremony at Holland House, in Cardiff on October 9th.

He and his team are responsible for the construction of 28 two, three and four-bedroom homes at Sirhowy Gardens, off Llwynon Lane, in Oakdale.

Syd added: “We are delighted to have started work at Oakdale and to be able to provide homebuyers in South Wales with a range of quality built homes with high specification interiors.”

The first homes at Sirhowy Gardens will go on sale in September this year but Redrow is already building a database of prospective purchasers. To register interest or find out more visit redrow.co.uk.
