With mortgage affordability at an all time low, more and more first-time buyers are finding it difficult to get on the property ladder. When faced with this problem, sisters Sarah and Natalie Day found the only solution was to co-buy their first home together and housebuilder Barratt Mercia was there to help them along the way.

Co-buying is becoming increasingly popular with young, first-time homebuyers due to higher house prices and living costs. Many such partnerships are formed through co-buying websites, where homebuyers search for likeminded people to become their ‘mortgage mate’. But when sisters Sarah, 19, and Natalie Day, 22 decided to buy their first home, there was no question as to who their ‘buddy’ would be.

Sarah and Natalie both working locally in admin roles, purchased a two-bedroom Richmond House, which includes a fully fitted kitchen, living/dining room, two bedrooms, one with en-suite, an attractive bathroom and spacious garden. When deciding who would have the master bedroom, Natalie said, “We both agreed amicably that I should have the en-suite bedroom, although I like to think it’s because I’m the eldest!”
