How buying Barratt could halve your energy bill

28th November 2008 Print
House hunters could beat the energy crunch and save more than 50 per cent on their annual bills if they opt for a new Barratt West Midlands home in Stratford-upon-Avon.

With homeowners experiencing a 20 per cent hike in their energy bills over the last 12 months, a recent research study has revealed that living in a new build could save up to £556 a year on average compared to older-style homes.

Not only that, homes at the housebuilder's Loxley Court development generate more than 60 per cent less carbon dioxide emissions, which is the equivalent of taking one car off British roads or driving 10,000 miles less a year, per household.

The study, carried out by National Energy Services and commissioned by New Homes Marketing Board, means that there has never been a better time to buy a Barratt home, especially as new homes can be up to 40 per cent more energy efficient than those built at the beginning of the decade.

Graydon Worthing, Sales Director for Barratt West Midlands, said, "This is a huge saving on energy bills and that extra money gained could be put towards mortgage repayments or any other essential bills the average homeowner must pay.

"The heating systems and insulation, as well as double glazed windows on a Barratt property really do vastly cut energy consumption and are a must for buyers looking to live a greener lifestyle."

For the study, National Energy Services looked at how energy efficient new builds were when compared to older-style properties. It showed that most new two-bedroom properties achieved an Energy Performance Certificate rating of B, whereas most Victorian two-bedroom terraces only managed an E. New three- and four-bedroom houses achieved a C grade, whilst older properties built in the mid-20th century were graded E. This ultimately meant that older homes would pick up higher running costs than those that were built in 2007 or later.

Barratt's Loxley Court development is situated on the Birmingham Road, in the Warwickshire town of Stratford-upon-Avon and currently offers one- and two-bedroom apartments, with prices starting from £159,000. For further information, visit Barratthomes.co.uk/loxleycourt.
