New flights bring Cornwall closer

24th April 2009 Print
New flights bring Cornwall closer News that the UK regional airline Air Southwest has launched a new twice-daily service between London City Airport and Plymouth and Newquay airports (flights started this Monday 20 April), is creating a buzz with city workers who have been eagerly awaiting this service for some time.

Interest in holiday homes in the north Cornwall area is already on the rise and this is set to make it boom even more, according to leading property consultancy Knight Frank.

This is a dream come true for many city workers with a passion for the sea and watersports and offers a route to real escapism at the weekends. For passengers from the capital, the new route puts the far south-west within easy reach for short breaks at a time when travellers are increasingly looking to holiday closer to home and avoid the high costs of euro zone breaks.

Miles Kevin, partner, Knight Frank, commented: “The new flights will be ideal for those who live in London who currently have or hope to own a second home in Cornwall; they will now be able to flight out on Friday after work and back on a Sunday in time to get back to the office on a Monday morning.

“The existing routes from Gatwick and Stansted have proved incredibly popular with south east home owners with a second home in Cornwall, but this really is the icing on the cake for those who live in more central London locations or work in the City or Canary Wharf.”

The new service stops at Plymouth en-route to Newquay, allowing travellers easy access to both the south and north of Cornwall. With a check-in time of only 15 minutes, this new service will be popular with commuters wanting to maximise their business day. Fares on the new flights have been designed to make the new service better value than either rail or road travel, with seats starting at £29 each way including taxes, charges and baggage.

Knight Frank is currently marketing a number of attractive holiday home opportunities close to Newquay airport. As well as being great for purchasers own holiday use there are attractive rental opportunities as there is a high demand for holiday rentals in this area.

Knight Frank has just launched The Village in Watergate Bay, just two miles from the airport. This is an exciting new development of 29 contemporary properties adjacent to the Hotel and Extreme Academy and Jamie Oliver’s Fifteen restaurant. The contemporary two bedroom houses, which boast exceptional design with eco credentials and stunning sea views, will be priced from £575,000.

Further along the coast toward Newquay itself, Knight Frank is marketing Zenith in Porth, a development of 29 two and three bedroom contemporary apartments, which all have balconies and stunning views across the Atlantic. The homes have a lockable owner’s closet (LOC), allowing owners to securely leave their personal items in the apartment, should they decide to let it out as an investment. Prices start from £235,000.

Porth Sands is another option in Porth, where there is a collection of just 12 beachfront apartments, all with lovely beach views. Prices start from £349,000 for a two bedroom, two bathroom apartment.

In Newquay itself, Knight Frank is marketing Bredon Court, a development of 30 large apartments on Newquay’s Links golf course and beyond to Fistral beach and the sea. Prices start from £210,000 for a two bedroom, two bathroom apartment with a large terrace.

Knight Frank is also marketing Zinc, an award winning development by Acorn Homes of 52 apartments on Headland Road leading down to Fistral Beach, Newquay’s finest surfing beach. Prices start from £275,000 for a two bedroom apartment.

Newquay airport is just five miles away from Newquay itself with Cornwall south coast 30 minutes drive away. Plymouth and Exeter an easy drive away, the region provides plenty to see and do all year round.

Knight Frank has reported a huge uplift in enquiries in Cornwall in the last few weeks. Miles Kevin added: "The buyers have all been people who want to invest in property as they feel their investments will do poorly elsewhere at the moment. They are mostly individual private investors who want to have an income but also are attracted to idea they could use the apartment themselves for family holidays. They feel the property market is close to the bottom and they feel safer with their money in something that is tangible."
