Cornish homes have staycation factor

With the pound losing value against the Euro and Britain in a recession, more of us are staying at home this summer and opting for holidays in the UK. According to the website travelsupermarket.com, seaside resorts are faring particularly well. Internet searches for Devon and Cornwall's coasts are up by 75% in June compared with the same period last year, and leading resorts Brighton, Torquay and Newquay are all experiencing increased visitor levels.
This surge in holidaymakers has also had a knock on effect on the property market as they seek to make visits more permanent. This trend has been strengthened by second home purchasers being put off buying overseas by the strong Euro, falling house prices and fewer flights – all knock on effects from the global downturn.
Nicola Markham, Acorn Blue Sales Director, comments: “Newquay has enjoyed a busy summer so far and we have witnessed a marked increase in the number of holidaymakers looking to buy a second home here. As families continue to tighten their belts it is likely that we may see more and more people opting to take breaks on home turf and I expect the staycation home trend is here to stay."
Markham continues: “Anyone looking for a holiday home in Cornwall we have a great collection of contemporary apartments and penthouses which offer stunning views of the Atlantic Ocean. With record demand for UK holiday ‘staycations’, the investment appeal for buy-to-lets is also soaring as savvy buyers look to secure long-term assets. These are properties with universal appeal.”
