Tyre-Rite saves customer £1500
Exactly the dilemma that recently faced one of Tyre-Rite’s customers who got in touch with them via their highly informative website. He had 2 acres of wet grass to mow, some of it on a 15 degree slope, and his mower was just not up to the job. Now, with a set of high mobility tractive chevron pattern tyres from the Cornwall based specialist fitted to the customer’s Simplicity Regent garden tractor, not only has grip been improved, but more engine power is now getting down to the machine’s sharp end - its 42 inch cutting deck .
Mike Egginton, Tyre-Rite’s managing director explains, “It was not as if he had a piece of kit that was not man enough for the job - 17 horsepower should be more than adequate for the size of area he needs to cut. But with the recent spate of wet springs we have had these last few years - and the speed at which grass seems to grow now - he could never get on the ground early enough before the grass got too high to cut comfortably with a top-end domestic machine.
By the time we got the enquiry, the customer was seriously considering trading up to a pre-owned commercial mower in the 22 h.p. Kubota or John Deere diesel class - which even on eBay, do not come in at much under £1500. Ironically, if he had gone down that route, sticking with a conventional turf pattern tyre - which is what most professional grounds care equipment usually comes with – it would have left him not much better off as regards to operating safely on the sort of slopes he has to contend with.”
Egginton concedes that, “Yes, a chevron pattern will leave marks on soft ground, but as this customer might only take the tractor out perhaps once every two or three weeks, there is plenty of time for the ground to recover. That for him is an acceptable compromise".
