There's never been a better time to buy a new car
A wider range than ever, major discounts on many new cars, stock availability, great part-exchange values and highly favourable finance terms for consumers mean there has never been a better time to buy a new car, according to the Retail Motor Industry Federation (RMIF) the trade association for the retail motor sector that represents 8,000 car dealers and service and repair garages.Sue Robinson, RMIF Director, believes this is the time to get into a showroom: ‘Because car sales dropped off dramatically at the end of 2008, it has become a buyer's market, with car dealers more than ready to offer significant discount or good trade in values for new cars.
‘Buyers could find themselves to be the first on their street with a brand new 09 plate car too, if they order now for delivery for 1 March.'
Robinson believes that buyers will get more than just a great deal if they buy a new car: ‘The quality of modern cars, better fuel economy, lower road tax cost and the cost savings provided by warranties and extended contract service agreements all add up to a package to satisfy buyers across the spectrum of customer needs.'
She adds: ‘Consumers that are thinking about buying a new car should use the opportunity now to get the vehicle they want at the price that is right.
It is extremely important to use a reputable dealer for buying either a new or used car.'
When looking for a car, there are a number of things to look out for:
A newly-registered car is sold with a full three to five year manufacturer warranty.
When comparing deals use the on-the-road price which manufacturers now recommend. This is made up of the basic ex-works price; value added tax, number plate, delivery charges, and road fund licence, and first registration fee.
Motorists should also consider the following check-list before and after purchase to make sure that the obvious is ‘not overlooked'. The rate of vehicle excise duty varies depending on the level of exhaust emissions produced by the car, so it is worth bearing this in mind.
