Comma powers new FIA Formula 2 Championship

Formula Two, once a feeder series to Formula 1 and the domain of F1 stars like Jim Clark, Jochen Rindt, Jonathan Palmer and Jacky Ickx, was replaced in 1985 by Formula 3000. The new-for-2009 championship will provide a new stepping stone for aspiring F1 drivers.
All 24 cars in the championship, run by ex-F1 racer Jonathan Palmer’s MotorSport Vision, will run on products supplied by Comma, including oil, brake fluid, coolant and maintenance products.
Comma has been technical partner to MSV’s corporate driving facility at Bedfrod Autodrome, as well as driving experiences at MSV venues Brands Hatch and Oulton Park and the company’s Formula Palmer Audi race series, since 2007. The partnership with F2 will mark Comma’s move into international motor racing, and the existing partnerships will remain.
“Comma has been involved in motorsport for many years, with much success,” said Comma’s Mike Bewsey. “Our link with Jonathan Palmer and MSV has proven that our products can withstand some real punishment, with over 2.2 million miles a year run trouble-free across MSV’s activities.
“But the F2 car, which has been designed by Patrick Head and the Williams F1 team, is another proposition again. It’s a serious, top-level racing car, which means it needs the very best lubricants and chemicals to keep it running at optimum performance. Our relationship with F2 will be another indication to the motoring public that ours are products you can trust.”
Formula 2 will run on some of the highest-profile circuits across Europe, including F1 circuits Spa in Belgium, and Barcelona in Spain. Many of its race meetings will be held alongside the World Touring Car Championship and Eurosport will carry live television coverage of the championship. The season will start at the Spanish Valencia circuit on 31 May.
