Fly Ryanair to Europe for the lowest fares guaranteed

Ryanair, Europe's largest low fares airline, yesterday turned flying in Birmingham upside down - almost literally. The airline's latest madcap promotion challenged Brummies to take part in a headstand contest right in the heart of the city, with the winner receiving a cash prize of £1,000!

The event underlined Ryanair's pledge to turn air fares in the Midlands on their heads - by offering three million seats available for just £10 including taxes.**

Some fifteen willing participants attracted a big crowd as they took part in the competition, eager to grab the grand on offer by balancing upside-down longest on Broad Street.

Passers-by couldn't believe their eyes as the challengers caused a stir outside the Symphony Hall.

The winner was Chris Foxall (18) from Crabs Cross in Redditch. Chris, an art student at Bromsgrove College, managed to stay on his head for three and a half minutes, narrowly pipping a breakdancer.

Chris gasped: "I can't believe it. I just popped in to the city centre to visit some art galleries, picked up a flier promoting the event, and thought I'd give it a go. Now I'm walking away with £1000!

"Thanks Ryanair - you've made my year!"

Chris was saving up to buy a car but now he won't have to save any more. Before today he had already booked his summer holiday flights - flying Ryanair from East Midlands to Londonderry.
