Ryanair celebrates 3m passengers from London to Frankfurt
Ryanair, Europe's largest low fares airline, today (September 13) celebrated carrying its three millionth passenger between London Stansted and Frankfurt Hahn airports. The route was Ryanair's first German connection from the UK in 1999. Since then, passenger numbers have more than trebled from 90,000 in the route's first year to more than 300,000 this year.
The phenomenal demand for travel from London to Germany has also seen Ryanair launch seven other routes from London - to Bremen, Hamburg, Berlin, Altenburg (Leipzig), Friedrichshafen, Karlsruhe (Baden Baden) and Dusseldorf
Ryanair's UK Marketing Executive Ed Grimsey said: "We're delighted to celebrate this amazing milestone on our very first route to Germany. This year we expect to carry over 1.6 million passengers between London and Germany, reflecting the strong demand for low fares from both Londoners and Germans.
"Ryanair flights have been a driving force behind inbound tourism from Germany, generating eight hundred jobs in the UK. This year, German visitors to London on Ryanair flights will generate a tourism spend of over £170 million, giving a huge boost to the local economy.
"To celebrate these unprecedented passenger numbers, Ryanair has made 250,000 seats to Germany available from just 1p - passengers only have to pay the taxes and charges. But with demand for travel to Germany going through the roof, we'd urge passengers to act fast, as these seats will be snapped up in record time."
