Ryanair guarantees no fuel surcharges
Ryanair, the low fares airline, has called on Europe’s high fare carriers to put an end to their fuel surcharge scam in 2008. High fare airlines across Europe committed their greatest passenger gouging ever in 2007, jacking up fuel surcharges to record levels.Speaking last week, Ryanair’s Head of Communications Peter Sherrard said:
“This Christmas, passengers have been paying up to €168 return in fuel surcharges with BA, €146 with Air France and €154 with Lufthansa on top of their fares.
“2007 has been the year of the fuel surcharge scam as high fare airlines ripped off passengers with a succession of unjustified fuel surcharge hikes when most of them were buying their oil at $65 a barrel, some $25 below today’s prices.
“Ryanair is the only airline to guarantee no fuel surcharges ever and is today calling on the European Commission to take action over these unjustified surcharges. It the European Commission really cared for consumers it would follow the lead of the US and the UK authorities who convicted British Airways and Virgin for price fixing. Instead it continues to turn a blind eye to this fuel surcharge scam.
“To celebrate Ryanair’s no fuel surcharge ever guarantee, we are giving away 2 million seats for £10, so passengers looking for the lowest fares guaranteed and no fuel surcharges in 2008 should log onto Ryanair.com immediately”.
