Cleethorpes man pops the question at 35,000ft

Cleethorpes man pops the question at 35,000ft “Ladies and gentlemen, we are now flying at 35,000 ft and I have a very special request. I’d like to ask passengers David Christie and Jayne Terry to come to the front of the aircraft. David has a very important question to ask Jayne.” Not the kind of announcement you normally hear on a Ryanair flight. But this morning’s flight from Doncaster Sheffield to Barcelona Girona was no ordinary one.

For David Christie (39) from Cleethorpes had contacted Ryanair and explained that he wanted to propose to girlfriend Jayne (38) from Burstwick, East Yorkshire - and his dream was to pop the question on a Ryanair flight at 35,000ft!

Europe’s largest low fares airline was delighted to oblige.

So this morning, the Captain made the announcement. David, who works in shipping and logistics, and a puzzled Jayne, a school nurse, stepped forward, and David, to the amazement of the other 187 passengers, proposed to a shocked Jayne over the aircraft’s public address system.

Fortunately, she said “yes”, to the cheers and applause of the gobsmacked passengers.

And to complete the fairytale, Ryanair made sure that the ecstatic couple were met with champagne on arrival at Barcelona Girona Airport.

A delighted David said: “Getting engaged in mid-air is a dream come true. I’m overjoyed that Jayne said “yes” and can’t wait for the happy day.”

Peter Sherrard, Ryanair’s Head of Communications, added: “Ryanair is delighted that David and Jayne’s engagement got off to a flying start, and we wish them a long and happy marriage.”
