Ryanair calls on competitors to reduce fuel surcharges
Ryanair has today (1st October) called on its competitors to reduce their fuel surcharges as oil prices have fallen by over 30% in recent weeks. Ryanair made the call as it launched a 1 million, £1 (including taxes and charges), Winter Seat Sale for travel in October, November and December with seats available on ryanair.com until midnight Sunday 5th October.Ryanair called on passengers to take advantage of its 1 million £1 one way (incl taxes and charges) fares and show high fares, fuel surcharging, airlines that they will no longer tolerate unfair fuel surcharges.
This 1 million seat sale underlines Ryanair’s guarantee of the lowest fares and no fuel surcharge this winter, whilst it claims its competitors continue to impose fuel surcharges even though the price of fuel has fallen by over 30% a barrel in recent weeks.
Speaking today Ryanair’s Stephen McNamara said:
“The response to our Winter Sales drive has been phenomenal, last week we achieved yet another sales record as we continue to see passengers opt for Ryanair’s guaranteed lowest fares and the promise of no fuel surcharge.
“Greedy airlines need to realise that passengers are no longer willing to pay unjustified fuel surcharges. Some of our competitors were quick to impose and increase fuel surcharges as fuel prices rose. However, they are less responsive to the fall in fuel prices and passengers are yet to see any of these airlines reduce or remove the surcharges they impose.
“This 1 million £1 seat sale for October, November and December proves that Ryanair continues to be the only airline which can guarantee the lowest airfares and no fuel surcharge. We urge passengers to book these £1 seats ryanair.com before midnight on Sunday.”
