Ryanair Calendar Girls take YouTube by storm
Ryanair has confirmed that its campaign to defend the rights of girls to take their clothes off for charity is taking YouTube by storm with over 150,000 people logging on to view behind the scenes footage of the making of Ryanair’s Cabin Crew Charity Calendar 2009, which UK politician Mary Honeyball criticised as ‘soft porn’.The calendar, which was launched two weeks ago and will raise €100,000 for Dublin Simon Community, has attracted outrage from anti-sexism groups in Sweden and Spain, together with UK MEPs, but has proven a huge hit online.
Ryanair has already sold 3,500 calendars, with 1,000 sold online within hours of the official launch. Ryanair’s calendar can be bought online at ryanair.com and onboard its aircraft while “The making of the 2009 Ryanair Cabin Crew Charity Calendar” can be viewed online at youtube.com.
Ryanair’s Stephen McNamara said:
“The girls of Ryanair are flying high on Youtube with 150,000 people logging on to show their support to the 2009 Ryanair Cabin Crew Charity Calendar. We are delighted with the interest in the calendar and the support for our campaign to defend the right of girls to take their clothes off for charity. The entire proceeds of each calendar will go directly to charity. A quarter of the calendars have sold already so we urge those who want to secure a copy of this year’s hottest calendar to log on to ryanair.com as soon as possible as the numbers are strictly limited to 10,000."
