Act on scrappage now RMIF tells Government
‘The fact that the Government is continuing to seriously consider the implementation of a Vehicle Scrappage Scheme in the UK is encouraging, but it must act soon as the lack of action could have serious long-term consequences for the motor industry in the UK,’ according to Sue Robinson, Director of the Retail Motor Industry Federation (RMIF), commenting on questions put to Business Minister Lord Carter of Barnes by Lord Razzall in the House of Lords this afternoon (Wednesday 18 March 2009).When asked in by Lord Razzall if the Government was giving serious consideration to a vehicle scrappage scheme, Lord Carter stated that the Government is continuing to look very closely at a scrappage scheme in the UK, but would not give any indication of when they would come to a decision.
Robinson contines: ‘The Government must declare their intentions as soon as possible if scrappage is to be adopted, and include motor industry professionals from the retail sector to provide their expertise during the planning and implementation of the scheme.’
