Spanair to auction flights on eBay

Spanair is about to start auctioning flights on eBay.es, the biggest marketplace for buying and selling via the Internet in Spain. The initiative consists of an auction of up to 15 thousand flights to European and domestic destinations, including the Balearic and Canary Islands. As well as return flights, tickets may be bought only for one way.

The first three-day auction will commence on February 22 for flights between February 28 and March 3. There are plans for two further auctions of similar characteristics in March and April.

Laura González-Estefani, Responsible of Business Development at eBay.es says: "With this auction, Spanair is launching a new way to buy flights on eBay.es. We firmly believe that this new activity will bring added value to our users, who, for the first time, will enjoy with this possibility on their normal purchasing channel".

For González-Estefani "By means of this agreement, Spanair will not only benefit from reaching a passionate community currently comprising over three million users, but also from the guarantees of security, trust and secure transactions maintained by eBay since it initiated operations. These include the possibility of payment via PayPal, the voting system and over ten years' experience accumulated by the company worldwide".

"This initiative launches a new distribution channel for the industry, enabling consumers to set the price for the first time in the history of Spanish air transport", states José María Barrado, Spanair Responsible of E-commerce. "It will be the first time that supply and demand have a face to face to set the price dynamically", he added.
