Surf’s up with bmibaby

26th May 2009 Print
bmibaby launched a new route from Birmingham to Newquay last Friday, and the service will operate until 20 September 2009. Flights will depart from Birmingham on Tuesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. bmibaby expects to carry over 20,000 passengers on this route over the summer.

Crawford Rix, managing director, bmibaby said:

“The new route is great news for Birmingham. No longer will a trip to Newquay mean a four and a half hour trek down the M5… but merely a short flight lasting just over an hour from Birmingham International Airport.

“The route is already proving popular and we expect to carry over 20,000 passengers on the service over the summer months.”

Paul Kehoe, chief executive officer, Birmingham International Airport said:

“It is great news for the airport and passengers that this popular route has been reinstated. Newquay has traditionally meant a long car journey for Midlanders but now with this direct service a long holiday or a short weekend break is within reach. We are delighted that that bmibaby has started this route from the airport showing its commitment to the airport and the region.”

Newquay offers more than just a surfing mecca. The numerous golden beaches and stunning coastline is perfect walking territory, and the town centre is awash with great bars and restaurants including the top class Jamie Oliver establishment, Fifteen.
