Easter warning: Is your car eggshausted?

7th April 2009 Print
Motorists planning an Easter getaway might want to check their car isn’t ‘eggshausted’ before heading off, Kwik-Fit has warned.

Indeed, spring might well be in the air, but the harshest winter in 18 years has left a trail of devastation to Britain’s cars, according to new research from Kwik-Fit. Over 14 million motorists say that their car is suffering as a result of the winter, leaving cash strapped motorists - already facing a fuel duty rise - with untimely repair bills.

Tired tyres: 5.4 million motorists (16%) said the extra strain of driving on grit has led to increased tyre wear this year. Plus the cold weather reduces tyre pressure – causing tyres to wear quicker.

Exhausted exhausts: A further 3.6 million drivers (11%) report corrosion to their exhausts due to the excess of salt on Britain's roads.

Battered batteries: Over three million motorists suffered a flat battery that needed regular charging or replacing.

Body blows: Over seven million motorists (23%) reported damage to their car’s bodywork due to salt and grit.

In response Kwik-Fit is urging concerned motorists to get their car checked over for free by one of its expert technicians, to ensure their car is in perfect condition to take advantage of the warmer weather heading our way this Easter. While spring cleaning may have washed the salt off, motorists can never be sure what lasting damage lurks beneath.

David White, customer services director at Kwik-Fit said: “Easter always marks the start of the motoring season with millions of Britons taking to the roads. Having just come out of the worst winter for years, motorists would be well advised to get their cars thoroughly checked over before setting off.”

Kwik-Fit is urging motorists who suspect their cars may be suffering from a winter hangover to visit their local Kwik-Fit centre for a free inspection.
