A star is born

Top Mountain Star The latest, and coolest, place to feel `on top of the world' opens this week in Hochgurgl, the Austrian Tirol's highest parish. Located at 3,080 metres, the new restaurant, bar and viewing platform at the `Top Mountain Star' offers one of the most stunning viewing platforms in the Alps as its unique `crystal' shaped design incorporates 360 degree floor to ceiling windows to give unrivalled views of the Oeztal Alps and the Dolomites to the South.

The crystal theme is continued with on the design of the façade, which incorporates sparkling Swarovski crystals which vie with the glittering snow and ensure it can be seen for miles. A large staircase leads from the ski lift to the restaurant which has a wrap-around porch offering a spectacular 360° panorama across the Ötztal Alps and as far as the Dolomites.

The interior is as spectacular as the exterior: The restaurant accommodates 100 guests and serves fine wines and a high standard of cuisine, while the round `Star Bar' shows all 12 zodiac signs which flicker and twinkle when a glass is put down on one of the light points.

Cool sounds, mountain snacks, top wines and drinks contribute an unique experience with one of the best views you'll find anywhere on skis.

BA's new 8 times weekly flights from Gatwick to Innsbruck make getting to the Tirol even easier, with early departures to make the most of the elusive ski weekend and get skiers onto the slopes by late morning. Obergurgl is just over an hour's drive from Innsbruck and a week's stay in the modern, boutique style new hotel `Josl', opening on 2nd December, costs from just 80 euros / person, half board. The hotel also offers a state of the art spa and sauna centre and door-to-door skiing.
