26th November 2007 Print
Skiers, snowboarders, snowshoers and snowtubers should head to Snowshoe Mountain Resort high up in the Allegheny Mountains of West Virginia and experience it’s 1,500’ vertical drop, 244 skiable acres and 60 trails which includes three new slopes for the 2007-2008 season.

And there’s no concern over the lack of the whitestuff! Snowshoe’s 100-percent snowmaking capability supplements the annual average of 180” of natural snow that falls on the mountains. Over the last three years the resort has averaged 132 days a season, with skiing and riding beginning in late November, with runs open through late March.

Just four hours from Washington, D.C., Snowshoe Mountain resort offers world-class skiing and stands as the premiere ski resort in the southeastern United States. Most of Snowshoe’s mountaintop accommodations offer ski-in, ski-out accessibility, allowing guests the most time possible on the snow.

The wide-variety of trails offer everything from long, challenging slopes designed for experienced and expert skiers in the mountain’s Western Territory, to a variety of family-friendly slopes ranging in difficulty on the large basin side of the mountain and in the resort’s Sliver Creek area. The latter houses a five-lane tubing park and the mountain’s 14 slopes open for night skiing.

For snowboarders and skiers looking to test their freestyle skills, Snowshoe is home to Spruce Glades Terrain Park and Mountaineer Terrain Park as well as two terrain gardens. The mountain boasts the region’s largest all-snow half-pipe, measuring 450’. For those looking for activities beyond downhill skiing, Snowshoe offers snow tubing and, weather permitting, snowshoeing and 43 kilometers of cross-country skiing, in addition to a number of adventure activities, which include snowmobile guided tours and the Spilt Rock Pool facility.

There are over 20 dining and bar venues in the Village at Snowshoe, which, as an “upside down resort” sits at the mountain’s highest elevation of 4848’. Ranging from casual family dining at the Junction, to the cool sophistication of Ember restaurant, Snowshoe’s dining and bar options are as varied as its slope selection. Nightlife on the mountain also includes the Connection nightclub and the Comedy Cellar. Additionally, guests may choose to relax after a long day on the slopes in the mountain’s outdoor hot tubs, or enjoy a stroll through the Village, which includes an outdoor fireplace, retail outlets and many of the mountain’s 1,400 lodging units.

Snowshoe has also announced the new Sawmill Village, a gated community with access to Snowshoe’s newest trails, as well as the year-old Soaring Eagle Express high-speed quad. An innovative development, Sawmill features large, single-family luxury homes that are energy efficient and outfitted with Energy Star-approved appliances.

As always, Snowshoe is dedicated to maintaining a balance with the natural environment that surrounds it, ensuring the land encompassing Snowshoe Mountain will remain forever wild.

With the luxury accommodation expected of a world-class resort, Snowshoe is a growing destination backed by Intrawest, developers of the world’s greatest playgrounds: from beach resorts to golf courses, and of course, world-renowned mountain destinations, including Colorado’s Steamboat, Whistler Blackcomb in British Columbia, Canada and Tremblant of Quebec.
