10th December 2007 Print
New flights make Innsbruck hottest ski destination The first easyJet (easyjet.co.uk) flight lands in Innsbruck on 14th December, opening up the city and its surrounds as a `low cost’ destination for British travellers for the first time. The new service is operating six days a week from Gatwick (Sunday to Friday) and three days a week from Bristol (Fri, Sun, Mon) into the `capital of the Alps’, with fares from £15.99 (£17.99 from Bristol).

On January 14th easyJet adds a further new Innsbruck route with flights from Liverpool, three times weekly (Tues, Thurs, Sun) from £17.99.

Once through the baggage hall the capitol of the Tirol, is easily accessible, just 4kms east of the airport. An airport bus operates every 15 minutes into the city, taking around 18 minutes.

For skiers and boarders there are nine ski regions surrounding Innsbruck, offering 285 kms of piste with 80 cable cars and lifts in areas such as Mutteralm, the Stubaier Gletscher, Schlick 2000 and Axamer Lizum. Regular ski buses to the satellite ski areas make it easy to `shop and ski’, or to try out several ski areas from a central base.

And since 1st December 2007 visitors to Innsbruck have been able to let the train from one of four terminals in the city centre, right up to link with the gondola lift on the adjacent Hungerburg mountain and travel up to 2269m in just 20 minutes.

London’s award winning architect, Zaha Hadid, opened the city’s newest and most striking tourist destination since the golden roof, revealing the four new green glass rail terminals of the new Nordkettenbahnen funicular.
