It may be summer, but you can still hit the slopes

24th June 2008 Print
It may be summer, but you can still hit the slopes As the southern hemisphere ski season gets underway and European glaciers open for summer skiing, the Ski Club of Great Britain’s website, skiclub.co.uk, continues to be the number one place to view the most up to date and accurate snow reports on the internet.

The glacier summer skiing area at Tignes reopened this weekend, following on from Les Deux Alpes which opened last week. Glacier skiing at Val d’Isère is scheduled to start on 28th June. There is also skiing in Val Senales and Presena Glacier in Italy; Hintertux, Stubai and Dachstein glaciers in Austria, and Zermatt in Switzerland. Saas Fee will open for summer skiing on 5th July.

For the southern hemisphere, there are some top class snow conditions in Chile and Argentina, although Australia and New Zealand are having a slower start. Over the next two weeks most resorts in the southern hemisphere will be open for the season, snow conditions dependant.

The Ski Club updates snow reports for all these resorts twice a week during the summer and provides daily weather and snow forecasts. In addition, there is a round-up of snow conditions in the Snow Overview on skiclub.co.uk plus the chance to watch our weekly Snowcast on SkiTV which gives a succinct review of where the best snow can be found.

The Snowcast, a weekly Snow Podcast, can be watched on SkiTV.co.uk, or downloaded from skiclub.co.uk/snowcast to watch on a computer or portable video player. You can also find webcams for hundreds of resorts worldwide and historical snow reports which give snow conditions for 250 resorts from the last 15 years. This is a key tool in planning your next skiing or snowboarding holiday.

For those wanting to take advantage of the summer snow, the Ski Club has a comprehensive guide to Summer Skiing on skiclub.co.uk. Top tips include booking independent flights at off-peak times, taking a ski improvement course or building summer skiing into a multi-activity week.
