White Tirol turns green

23rd September 2008 Print
White Tirol turns green The Tirol is one of Europe’s leaders when it comes to low energy houses, renewable and solar installations. Many of these innovations are now being applied to tourist accommodation and infrastructure, including the completion of an innovative, solar powered T-bar ski lift and conveyor to take skiers at Brixon in the Austrian Tirol, opening in time for the winter 2008/9 ski season.

A globally innovative solar powered conveyor belt and T-bar takes skiers and boarders from near Brixen swimming lake, up to a new 8-seater cableway, "SkiWelt – Kitzbüheler Alpen", to join up with the 4.5kmrun back down. The ski tow is powered by a photovolatic system, a worldwide innovation, lending the name "Sonnenlift" to the new lift, and even in poor weather the system has enough power to keep the lift running smoothly.
