Farewell to a giant

The Holmenkollen Ski jump was open for the last time yesterday. The next opportunity to experience the views of Oslo from this angle is when the new Holmenkollen ski jump, designed by Julien De Smedt Architects, is in place. This will have a viewing platform with a 360 degree panorama view over the Oslo city landscape.
Over the next two years a completely new Holmenkollen Arena will be built on the same site, and inaugurated during the 2010 trial FIS World Championships in Nordic Skiing. In 2011 the FIS World Championships themselves will be held in the new Arena. The start of the deconstruction on October 16th will be a press and public event, and it is expected that the construction site will be a tourist attraction in itself.
