Admiral: Government speed limit plans
The expected Government announcement regarding the reduction of speed limits in urban locations may face some opposition according to car insurance specialist Admiral's Survey of Motorists. It shows that whilst 35% of motorists are in favour of reducing the speed to limit to 20mph in residential streets, 62% think it should remain at 30mph and 3% want it to increase to 40mph.
Should the Government choose to look to reduce the speed limits on dual carriageways in the future, Admiral's figures show that motorists will support this, as 74% think it should be reduced from its current 70mph state. But 71% of motorists think the speed limit on motorways should be increased beyond its current 70mph state.
However, it seems that whatever speed limits are, the temptation to break them is too great for many drivers as 83% admit to driving over the speed limit.
