The Spice Girls, arriving back into Britain to start the UK leg of their world tour today, opened Virgin Atlantic’s brand new terminal at Heathrow. The girls were greeted by thousands of fans who were waiting to welcome them home in the new £1bn facility.

Emma, Geri, Mel B, Melanie C and Victoria, who flew in from Los Angeles after naming a Virgin Atlantic Boeing 747 jumbo jet “Spice One” yesterday, said:

“We were overwhelmed that so many people were there to welcome us to London, we can’t wait to perform for our UK fans.”

Sir Richard Branson, President of Virgin Atlantic, commented:

“We are delighted to welcome the girls back to Britain today, having flown in on a jumbo Boeing 747 named “Spice One” in their honour, and pleased they could launch our brand new terminal.

“This futuristic terminal will outsmart T5 by providing our passengers with a seamless, faster and shorter journey through the airport – and goes to prove bigger is not always better!”

Virgin Atlantic’s new terminal facility will handle over 60,000 passengers every week and around three million passengers in the next year alone. The new Check In represents the future of travel with a bright, modern design with the most technologically advanced check in systems providing a quick, easy and efficient process for all Virgin Atlantic passengers.

The new terminal also offers Upper Class passengers a brand new Upper Class Wing Check In facility which can get passengers from their limo to the lounge in under ten minutes, offering a dedicated security channel. Both form part of a £1bn redevelopment of Terminal 3 over the next ten years. Virgin Atlantic’s terminal was designed by Foster + Partners in collaboration with Virgin Atlantic’s in-house design team.

The Spice Girls have chosen Virgin Atlantic as the airline partner for the Return of the Spice Girls world tour and the partnership deal will see Virgin Atlantic providing the flights for the Spice Girls, as well as the whole team who are responsible for making the World Tour a huge success. The girls flew on the Upper Class Suite which is the longest flat bed in business class and which also offers many unique features like an onboard bar and inflight beauty therapist.
