Virgin Atlantic and V Australia announce partnership

14th July 2009 Print
Virgin Atlantic and V Australia have joined forces in a new loyalty programme agreement which allows travellers to earn miles when flying on the networks of both airlines.

This reciprocal frequent flyer agreement enables Virgin Atlantic’s Flying Club Members and V Australia’s Velocity Members to earn Velocity Points or Flying ClubMiles on both V Australia and Virgin Atlantic flights.

Virgin Atlantic Chief Executive, Steve Ridgway, said,

"We are very pleased to launch this new partnership with V Australia. It is great news that our passengers will now be able to earn miles when travelling with our sister airline and a fantastic added bonus for those travellers that have booked Virgin Round the World fares. The combination of Virgin Atlantic and V Australia offers travellers huge flexibility and some of the best value round the world fares available – and now they will be able to earn more miles when they fly to these exciting destinations."

Virgin Blue Chief Executive, Brett Godfrey, said,

"This is obviously a natural fit for both V Australia and Virgin Atlantic and great news for our Guests who now have the ability to accrue ‘Points’ or ‘Miles’ regardless of which network they are flying on.

"Through this arrangement we are able to further reward those who prefer to fly with and remain loyal to Virgin branded airlines and we hope this gives our Guests added incentive to do so."

There are two Virgin Round The World Fares available – ‘Virgin Global East’ and ‘Virgin Global West’. The ‘Virgin Global East’ option takes passengers from Heathrow to Hong Kong and then onto Sydney with Virgin Atlantic, from Sydney to Los Angeles with V Australia, returning from Los Angeles to London with Virgin Atlantic.

The ‘Virgin Global West’ option takes passengers from London Heathrow to Los Angeles with Virgin Atlantic, then onto Sydney with V Australia, from Sydney to Hong Kong and then back to London with Virgin Atlantic.

The two airlines are currently working on plans to introduce reciprocal mileage redemption.

This joint venture is in addition to the existing frequent flyer partnership between Virgin Atlantic and Virgin Blue which was launched in 2008.
