Millions of motorists set for ‘rank’ holiday weekend
With millions of motorists set to take to their cars this weekend they could be in for more of a ‘Rank’ than a ‘Bank Holiday’ - after one in ten (3.2 million) said they’re suffering from nasty whiff inside their car that they can't locate. That’s according to new research from Kwik-Fit. But thankfully the company believes it's got the answer to putting you out of your in-car odour misery. It reckons that mystery pong is probably your air con!Kwik-Fit's research found that only 11% of motorists have EVER had their air conditioning unit cleaned, despite most manufacturers recommending that they are cleaned and serviced every two years. Many motorists appear unaware that over the years their air conditioning units build up and harbour all manner of moulds and bacteria – which eventually start to make your car smell.
Thankfully, the hardest part is realising that it's your air con that's probably causing the offensive odour, the easy bit is fixing it, courtesy of Kwik-Fit's simple air conditioning de-bug service, which can be taken on its own or as part of an air conditioning recharge service. The latter will ensure your whole air conditioning system is working effectively - as well as ensuring your car smells as fresh as a daisy.
David White, customer services director at Kwik-Fit: “We carry out hundreds of air conditioning debugs and recharges every week and are amazed at how many motorists tell us that it helped to banish a mystery pong inside their car. You might find that nasty smells are more prevalent at the start of spring as air conditioning units are often left untouched during the damper winter months, allowing more bacteria and mould to build up. So now is great time to get it serviced.”
Kwik-Fit is urging motorists who suspect their cars may be suffering from air con pong to visit their local Kwik-Fit centre before they set off this May Bank Holiday weekend for a debug service, or a full air conditioning recharge, which guarantees to lower the temperature achieved by your air conditioning unit by 10% or you'll get your money back.
