The last of the 50s
DVLA Personalised Registrations has unveiled its forthcoming 59-series, three weeks ahead of its official on sale date of June 2.The new registration - which will be seen on our roads from September 1 - marks the end of the 50s series which heralded the start of the current style of registration. The milestone means in March and September next year, car registrations will include 10 and 60 respectively.
The DVLA’s decision to allow drivers to view the 59-series online at dvlaregistrations.co.uk enables prospective buyers the opportunity to “play” with the millions of combinations to ensure they can come up with their perfect plate, with prices starting from £390.
As a hint, the new registration could prove a perfect gift for anyone who turns 50 this year, as they would have been born in 1959!
Introduced nine years ago, the current style involving two letters, a two figure age identifier followed by a space and three further letters, opened up a whole new movement of personalised registrations throughout Britain, with the series enabling a whole raft of quirky combinations. Fine examples during recent times include WE57 HAM, HU58 AND and MU51 CAL.
Damian Lawson, DVLA Personalised Registrations’ Marketing Manager, said: “Again, the introduction of the new 59 series opens up a whole new raft of potential registrations, being able to view them prior to sale provides time to have fun with our system to ensure customers get the plate of their choice.”
