Thatcham maintain installation standards

14th May 2009 Print
Further to the recent statement from the Board of the VSIB (Vehicle Systems Installation Board) that the company has gone into administration, Thatcham are moving to support the installation industry, announcing today the ‘Thatcham Recognised Installer’ scheme.

Thatcham recognise the ongoing need for competent vehicle systems installers and have decided to initiate a new scheme in order to protect the public and reduce risk to the Insurers.

In the short term, Thatcham invite installers to become ‘Thatcham Recognised Installers’ and are providing a mechanism via their website to enable individuals and companies to apply for registration under the scheme. For the immediate future all 'VSIB Certificates of Installation,' which have been a requirement of some installation schemes will be accepted by Thatcham.

All enquiries about the new ‘Thatcham Recognised Installer’ scheme should be directed to installer@thatcham.org. Further information is also available on the Thatcham website thatcham.org

In the medium term Thatcham will be developing a competency based ‘Thatcham Recognised Installer’ scheme and a ‘Thatcham Installation Certification’ scheme. This will be a robust scheme which will be developed after consultation with ‘Thatcham Recognised Installers’ and the wider systems installation industry. Thatcham welcomes expressions of interest in joining a consultation working group. Please email expressions to Andrew Miller, Director of Research at Thatcham, via Lisa Eggleton at lisa.eggleton@thatcham.org.
