Driving experts make hot 100
Berkshire-based driver education specialist, DriveTech (UK) plc, has been judged to be worthy of 55th place overall in a poll of the 100 most successful entrepreneur-led UK enterprises by Real Business magazine.Despite the financial gloom some businesses can buck the trend and DriveTech, having carved out a niche for itself in a specialist market, is going from strength to strength. It is the only organisation of its kind in the HOT100 listings.
The company supplies bespoke driver assessment and training solutions for a number of different sectors. Many motorists can now opt for one of the company’s courses if they fall foul of the law and wish to avoid a fine, points on their licence and an embarrassing dialogue with their insurer. Employees who drive for work purposes often end up costing their employers a fortune in collisions, wear and tear and unnecessary fuel usage and DriveTech is the leading supplier of refresher training and driver management services to rectify this situation. DriveTech also has an innovative learner driver product, ‘DriveTech Advantage’, which, by employing only the highest grade instructors and an innovative curriculum of its own, is achieving hitherto unprecedented test pass rates.
As the company approaches its twentieth anniversary, founder Chris Howell is still calling the shots and the organisation’s ‘can do’ culture is largely down to his deeply ingrained entrepreneurial spirit. “Our consistent growth is largely down to exceeding customer expectations, spotting opportunities, diversification, good planning and strong fiscal awareness,” says Howell. “We’re in a strong position, we’re debt free and we have fantastic long-term contracts in place with large commercial fleets, as well as many local and police authorities.”
