Janspeed rallies to needs of competition drivers

Janspeed, creators of performance enhancements for competition and road cars, is rallying to the needs of motorsport teams and their drivers following the closure of engine builder Richard Longman’s business.

Longman was a contemporary of Janspeed founder Jan O’dor at Downton Engineering in Wiltshire and both went on in the early 60s to found their own companies serving the motor racing industry as well as road car users.

“The names of Janspeed and Richard Longman are permanently intertwined,” explains Janspeed managing director Mark Vaughan. “I have in my office trophies that Longman won while driving competition cars for Janspeed – and Janspeed has kept up the winning formula ever since.

“It’s tragic for the Longman business and its customers that the company should close, particularly as competition teams and drivers are now getting into their stride for the 2009 season.

“Janspeed will offer them whatever support we can. We are as finely tuned to winning service as we are to building winning cars, engines, and anything else that may be needed at short notice or as part of long term projects.

“Our history embraces supporting privateers as well as running works teams for the likes of Nissan and we are heavily involved in development work of OEM installations for major manufacturers as well as designing and manufacturing parts to improve mainstream and performance models.

“Janspeed has all the latest technology in-house and can design, prototype, and manufacture virtually anything that a racing, rallying or road car might require.

“We have two engine test dynamometers, a four wheel drive chassis dynamometer, plus fully equipped machine and fabrication departments with a highly skilled engineering team capable of dealing with petrol, newly-fashionable diesel, and alternative fuel applications.
