No mountain is too high for Alamo

The intrepid explorers, Brenda Sharp, Marie Keenan, Val Wilson, Gordon Wilson, Vicky Wilson, Craig Littlefair and Geoff Pickard have been training in the Northumberland Cheviot hills and the mountains of the Lake District and will be heading off to Kenya on 20th July. There the team will face sub zero temperatures as they scale the highest mountain in Kenya – all in the name of charity.
The team are being supported by Alan Hinkes, the world famous mountaineer, and the only British climber to have scaled all of the 14 mountains around the globe that are 8000m high.
Mount Kenya is the second highest mountain in Africa, with the highest peak reaching 16,900 feet. It is also an extinct volcano and one of the only places in Africa where glaciers can be found. The team’s brave climb will take five days this July testing stamina and endurance.
Straight after their impressive climb, the Alamo team will work with KAP for a week to make their own contribution to the charity. KAP runs a hospital and supports several schools in the South East of Kenya. The charity also runs training and resource centres for young people and is involved in community health, running health events to raise awareness of HIV.
Marie Keenan and Val Wilson, taking part in the climb, are trustees of the charity which was founded by Seaton Burn College, in Newcastle. Pupils from the school visit the village every year and just before the team head off to Kenya, some of the people from the village will be visiting Newcastle.
Dawn Clayton, Marketing Manager, for Alamo Rent A Car comments. “This is a great project for our branch managers to be involved in. Brenda, Craig and Geoff along with the rest of the team have been training hard in the Lake District and Cheviots and have their colleague’s full support. We wish them the best of luck”.
